OK, I have got to the bottom of this, at least for me.
File associations, I finally discovered, are stored in
~/.kde/share/config/profilerc. Somehow, that file had become owned by
'root'. I do not know how that occurred -- I do not remember doing

Yeah! I confirm that this workaround works very well!
I have a workaround:
Move all your mails from the inbox to another folder. Then close

with Inbox (in my case there were six files). Now you can start
Evolution again

Nothing is echoed to the screen at all after the initial boot selection
menu. I've tried using VGA settings with no luck. It looks as though
some vertical stripes a few pixels wide appear but there is no

NO, THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. After uninstalling xscreensaver-

hmm strange...
when i install it via apt-get it shows:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
then i've installed mysql-gui-tools-5.0 from mysql.com and it begin to work
fine...
P.S. Felipe Cardoso Martins said what he have Ubuntu Gutsy 64 bits so
looks like bug not fixed in 7.10
