i had the same problem using ubuntu 7.10. The installer stops at 15% an
"detecting filesystems".
The log does not indicate anything interesting. However, i found an easy
workaround.

When I have f-spot open all video in gstreamer is scrambled. The same just
happened after I used wine. When I do a test on audio I get the following error

i have started it via menu - preferences - about me. I'm not able to
reproduce bug. I'm doing some experiments with mono package, so maybe
problem was caused by combination of unstable mono libraries or by

This behavior happens to me as well. Quite annoying, but I do not agree
that this is a showstopper. My workaround is to Restore, then Maximize
to fix the drawing error. I have to do this for each window that is
restored in Maximized state. This bug relates to Gnome's restoration of
