Seems like f-spot does not want to handle dbus really well in hardy at
the moment. I tried talking with people on IRC however can't figure out
why this happens.
When I start f-spot I get the following error:

Just looked at the valgrind log: a plugin seems to be the culprit
(/usr/lib/xchat-gnome/plugins/notifyosd.so), search for the string
SIGSEGV and you'll find the spot..
I guess that makes sense .. I only started experiencing the crashes

I am so disappointed that it was so easy to freeze up this system. I
just moved from Windows XP to Ubuntu and I've been meaning to really
like it but there are so many problems upon problems. I thought I had
just finished up configuring everything and my system was running
smoothly and everything a
xgl is not a good solution to this problem as it introduces even worse
problems than not having compiz running in the first place.
the core of this problem is in fglrx's lack of aiglx support for xorg server
1.4.
hopefully if amd gets poked enough about this then they will fix the issue.

Please make sure, that you are using the -generic kernel (and not -rt or

According to powertop, USB driver on my Thinkpad T40 causes too many
wakeups (50 - 100 per second with no devices attached while system is
otherwise idle). Kenel is from gutsy:

I also made a little video shot of this boot. Notice how the screen
blanks four times. The computer is perfectly usable in terminal mode
(net access via cable) and works without any lockups.

so it's still there. However, the xresprobe bug seems quite dif
