Disabling IO-APIC (kernel boot option noapic ) works for me and avoid
going into crazy mode.

I've been following Hardy dev on a laptop with Intel graphics and it has
been close to perfect (less the known 3d rendering issues to be fixed
later), and thought of upgrading my desktop which has a nvidia card and
had 7.10 working perfectly with compiz. I've also updated to latest

Hello,
i can confirm this on my eeePC with hardy. But it only occurs if i
delete one panel of gnome and tweak the other to fit good on the small
screen of eeepc. The workaround mentioned by Ric Flomag seems to work
right now.

In relation to Foppe Hemminga's comment that this may be a plugin
problem. I just have the a few plugins all of which are widely used by
everyone in the community eg flash etc. So I dont think it is because of
that.

i386 Ubuntu Desktop -generic kernel (updated as of 2008-04-14) sees only
3GB RAM in my 64-bit 8GB computer.
Booting using an i386 Hardy Beta LiveCD finds all 8GB - also a Gutsy
64-bit LiveCD finds all 8GB.
I've booted using mem=8192M and this does not help.
