Having similar problems here. On startup I get the two panels but the
desktop is pitch black. if I restart X (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) and log on
again, I only get the desktop with icons but no panels. If I restart
again, it goes normal.

The deleted files will be re-created on next start. If the bug happens

I think I traced that one to an attempted access to /dev/vbi0. Why, and
for what purpose, I don't know, though. It's just that the message
disappears if I set the vbi device to blank. The code even seems to take
this as a sign that the card is bt878 (which it is), and does something
else instead.
I forgot to look into Xorg.log before i rebooted so i do it again.

It seems a little worse in hardy. For me, when the gksu just did not
work when the PAM configuration was modified. No matter how many times i
tried to launch synaptic from the menu it just would not launch. When I
launched it from the command prompt using sudo it worked. I tried

Does it work with Hardy Final Live CD? If not is it still possible to switch to
console with ctrl + alt + f1.

I run Hardy and I'm getting this problem. Should I not expect the fix to
have made it out yet? (I am running AMD64 BTW) What I see is.
