For the record, yes, I had to turn off checksumming on all the domU to
get them to be able to transfer files reliably between themselves. I did
not have to turn off checksumming on dom0 for this.

The gpu was even not recognized during Hardy installation (see attached

linux-image that contains the relevant fixes) in my PPA at

Please try this kernel and report any success/regressions. If this fixes
the problem I can add the patch to Hardy 8.04.1.

As you suggested, I installed the fglrx driver from the repository and ran
aticonfig -- initial --force-monitor=crt1
The system rebooted fine, but for some reason the kernel module wasnt loading,
however it didnt go back to low graphics mode.
i then removed the repository packages
I can confirm this bug. Synaptic works fine on ubuntu, but hangs after
every install in kubuntu 8.04 'KDE 4 remix'. I guess it waits for the
end of some process but for some reason doesn't get informed when this
process ends.

I'm very skeptical of including this change in an SRU, because there
have been XSS vulnerabilities before in apache2 as a result of
mod_autoindex charset handling. UTF-8 is certainly the reasonable
default charset on Ubuntu, but it has been well before 8.04 as well, so
