To this point, I uploaded 4 albums, with 7, 60, 60 and 15 photos respectively.
What happened:

I thought that SMP required ACPI, but I'm not an expert. I'm using
amd64x2 (see above). The debugging link tells you to turn ACPI off.

This isn't completely fixed. While the mouse and keys are generally
working, the latest package now breaks the middle arrow pad and insert,
home, page up, delete, end, and page down keys. The num-pad
representation of these keys still function.

I have found the sulution to my problem. It looks that the problem was
connected with my mother board (DFI AD77), which is rather old now. With the
help from other DFI motherboards users I have managed to launch and install

The D-Link DWA-110 usb stick is a Ralink RT73 chipset btw. I also just
noticed that I seem to have reduced signal with 2.6.24-20 - the network
manager notification thingy is reporting 61% under 2.6.24-20.38 and 91%
under 2.6.24-19.

the classmate has an initscript to enable this feature with the
following code:

if the respective sysfs flags are not set the patch wont have any
effect.
