With Hardy I haven't had any sound problem since using the fix I
commented on above.
As to Intrepid I tested the live-cd for Intrepid alpha4 and the sound
worked fine so I'll asume there were no snd-hda-intel unknown symbols.

/usr/local/lib/libz.so -- the Sunfreeware Python package doesn't appear
to be able to accept /usr/lib/libz.so, it has to have
