I have exactly the same problem. It always happens on S3 Suspend to RAM
(Standby) on Hardy (8.04.1).
-19 is working fine, -20 and -21 have the kernel panic error. As my foreposter
stated, this error is repeatable, not sporadic.
I added a screenshot of my laptop showing the error.

I used the same workaround as Nicolas, so this is not an issue *for me*

so the problem occurs because pidgin couldn't recognize some special
characters in a QQ group name. Changing the group name in the blist.xml
can only fix the problem temporarily because once pidgin starts, it
retrieves the group name from server thus modified the xml file
automatically which cause

I've had this problem in Hardy as well as in the Alpha of Intrepid Ibex.
Whenever I try to connect to my file server I have no problems seeing
the file server using the remote login manager and clicking on it starts
the connection however I never get a login window to login into the file
server
