corrected replacement and Firestarter and Synaptic are working now. I
decided to clone my hard drive before running fsck, in case of problems
which would require a re-installation, as I am on dial-up. I tried to
run fsck by booting
I can confirm that this behaviour is also present on my Acer Aspire 5633
WLMi Laptop. I can also confirm that unchecking Reduce backlight
brightness and Dim display when idle under the battery tab in the
Power Management Preferences causes the power system to behave normally.

I don't know where or if I should report this but I found that the
Canadian mirror site (University of Waterloo) was giving me no end of
time outs. When I changed to the Main repository, download times were
back to thier normal, though clock-work speeds.

recognize the missing keys (specifically the two QuickPlay keys on my

Thanks for the temporary fix, I was experiencing this problem on a Intel
Wifi Link 5100.
However, the update did not fix what I hoped was a related problem,
namely, that my network connection is incredibly slow. I have tested my
network speeds, with what is reported as a good-quality signal, and
I am really a noob, but my webcam wouldn't work under ubuntu 8.10 as
well. Until i tried:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
whatever application u need it to run - delete skype and set name there. worked
for me. good luck.

Okay I've tested the newest driver 2.5.1 with Xorg 7.4 on Ubunt Intrepid
Ibex. The issues are now for 90% solved, only if I use an application
with a high number of frames or view movies in full screen mode, it
jerks. So this issue should be solved, but then I think it's perfect.

however I install kde-icons-mono and then try to install kmouth the

Same problem here with a logitech bluetooth mouse on a ThinkPad 43p with
Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 up-to-date. None of the solutions above worked
for me. After rebooting, hciconfig shows that the mouse (type USB ??) is
UP and RUNNING...

Erdal solved the garbled screen issue by adding 'virtual 1400 1400' to
his xorg.conf (second post). His remaining problem is the slowness.
