Yes, removing just sbp2 still resolves the issue. I looked at my kernel logs
and didn't see anything at all, it seems as if the system logs suspend and
then logs nothing on wake up, until reboot.

Have tried again with the full version and although this time the
upgrade went smoothly the performance of the system was very poor -
video playback and audio was choppy. I finally did a clean install with
8.10 which seems to be working much better.

Someone offered a bugfix. I don't remember exactly what was the case -- vaguely
remember that the guarddog in my computer was stopping me from connecting to lo
and that caused a lot of problems including evince not working and things like
that.

I just noticed that I didn't use the final version of Intrepid, but an
Alpha or Beta medium that was lying around. Installing Intrepid using
the official ISO worked just fine. Sorry for bothering you.

There was clearly a website issue but I think a reliable browser should
not prevent from switching to other tabs if the content of one tab is
"bad".
Similarly, it should be possible to close easily the tab in a such
