Thanks for your quick response. I've tried with Ubuntu 8.10 and attached a screenshot. I couldn't reproduce this problem (as you can see), even though I've followed your instructions.
I've looked at your screenshot and it seems that you are using xfce. Have you ever tried to reproduce this issue with Gnome?
