I'm marking this as affecting the source package nautilus. After manually downgrading nautilus, nautilus-data, and libnautilus-extension to version 1:2.25.3-0ubuntu2 (available in the Jaunty archives from January 23 to February 2) and restarting X (logout and log back in), the problem disappeared.

I haven't tried to reproduce the bug. The laptop I was using when that happened is down currently as I cracked the case and the computer shop hasn't been able to locate a replacement. I don't use Firefox or Konquerer anymore anyway on any of my systems as I found that Epiphany works better for me.
