I would guess you have one of the intel graphics which do not have
specific driver support. I'm thinking of the GMA-500. To confirm this,

I can confirm this bug. I am having the same problem. It seems as though
it only occurs when I first touch the pad.
For example, when I am moving my cursor from the lower left corner to
the upper right, I swipe the touchpad, lift my finger and swipe it
again. When my finger touches the pad before
I suspect that the *GDAL* package in Ubuntu is breaking GRASS.

This started last week after forcing an upgrade. Tomboy notes was removed.
This was working before.
If I select a thumbnail and right click I get a small box (no items)
Is someone still able to reproduce this with Jaunty or Intrepid?

Really was an AGP issue.

I am having the same problem, too.
But I can see my windows in the bottom bar and right click on them to close
them.
Restarting does nothing for me and I did nothing special in last days to have
this problem.
I have screenlets running ok and compiz fusion.

Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue

I installed a new laptop with 8.04, but need UMTS-Connetction so add the
Repositories from ppa.launchpad network-manager for 8.04. One week ago, all
works fine... then I make yesterday an update and from now on, can not connect
with an UMTS-Modem (LAN and
I think the problem is caused by Internet Service Providers. Some ISP:s
DNS servers provide some return value for local, which in turns lets
avahi/Ubuntu think there is actually such domain in use. When I changed
to using OpenDNS instead in my router, the problem went away.

actually Dimitrios, that was what I had to do, I booted into another kernel,
then ran
apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, and somehow it re-wrote the initrd for
this kernel version and magically booted. Not sure how or why, but I've got
my Ibex back. Thanks for your input.

Same problem in Jaunty Alpha 3 watching a video on CBC News. I have an
Audiohub and oddly the usual ticking sound after a restart stopped at
the same time as he crash and the video and sound continued to work even
after the crash was indicated.
