Jockey can be used detect the driver in use for all I care but I can not
believe this is taking 9 seconds (just tested).

Yes, it annoys me big time to wait this long EVERY TIME.
/usr/bin/compiz does not take this long and it checks much more than just the 
driver in use.

Either jockey needs to do this simple check a lot more efficiently or
it's simply the wrong tool for this particular task (that's why I filed
the bug against gnome-control-center earlier).
