Just curious how often you see this warning occur? Are you able to
readily reproduce it through a series of steps? It really is just a
warning so do you notice any other ill effects after it
appears/appeared? If this issue persists, could you try testing the
latest mainline kernel
The bug status makes this look like it's fixed, but it is still broken
in Intrepid (and I can't figure out how to indicate that). As Intrepid
is still a supported release, this seems like relevant information.

This exception (SystemError in cache.commit()) comes from update-
manager, not apport. It seems that it invoked
/usr/share/apport/package_hook with that absurd package name as argument
for --package?

That's what I was expecting (fearing)... The spec does not go until that
part - though IMHO it could have been good to have a common command to
do this kind of thing.
The problem is, no package except ubuntu-desktop and a few others depend
on desktop-file-utils. So fixing that detail would really
384490 is really a dup of this, i know its a spin-off. But its
important to keep all of them in one place for the time being. The devs
will open up bugs for the different chipsets if they feel necessary.
The important thing if that you've filed a bug report. Thanks for that!

- I don't ignore anything but it would be nice if people would stop spamming
everybody subscribed to this bug and would take the discussion to the user
forum or list of their choice

Well, that is why then. Tracker ships a desktop file in
/etc/xdg/autostart and it appears in Startup Applications. If it's not
there, then you must have deleted it, so thats not a bug. Does it appear
if you create a new user?
