The clock applet will display a sunny icon with Unknown weather when
Montreal, Quebec, Canada is selected as a location. This seems to be
caused by libgweather using a small automated weather station CWTA
(McTavish) instead of the expected Trudeau Intl Airport station CYUL. I

I can confirm this issue, as well. In my instance, I experience only a
high-pitched squeal that gradually builds over a few seconds and then
plateaus until I change the volume or play a sound, at which point a
pop sound is made. The proposed workaround works for me, as well.

It doesn't happen to me on my MacPro Ubuntu installation, but it happens
on the Acer Netbook. I really can't tell you how to trigger it,
unfortunately, since I can't detect the pattern. I will keep watching

i tried to open it by clicking on the icon and i tried opening it with

I just found that the reason for dd is that Linux doesn't allow reading
from the /proc/kmsg open descriptor without root privileges (as opposed
to restricting just the open() call). The syslog-ng that I was using
until now used the CAP_SYS_ADMIN capability to keep access to /proc/kmsg

Same problem here. I want to view YouTube-videos on my TV. I drag the
Firefox-window to the TV, and maximize it, and then click the fullscreen
button. Then the video is shown on the monitor, not the TV, and in the
wrong resolution aswell. With Opera, the video is actually shown on the

I am also seeing similar behavior. I just installed Kubuntu 9.04 on an
old Sony PCG-R505ECK laptop. I can set up wireless connections manually
using ifconfig and iwconfig, but wicd can't do them. It has correct
settings, but seems to be trying to run wpasupplicant, even though my
