KMS detects and sets the preferred resolutions for each device correctly
(1600x1200 on DVI1, 1440x900 on LVDS1). When X starts up, the resolutions set
by KMS IMHO should be kept, but aren't. X sets both displays to the highest
common resolution, which is
That's a fairly non-standard config, not really one we support by
default.
Can you see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent karmic alpha
livecd? You can download isos from http://cdimages.ubuntu.com.

Hi, thanks for your message.
Due to Dell's appalling support, I have ditched their machine and
persuaded them to offer a full refund. The replacement has Vista, so I
am out of the Ubuntu loop for the time being.
I really would like to break away from Windows, but do not have the time
to invest

the mixer wasn't available in the list for me. i installed kde, and lxde
on top of gnome and xfce4 (wanted to test them out), which i think
affected the icon. i downloaded xfce4-mixer from synaptic and then i was
able to add the icon to the bar
hope this helps some1

It wasn't me that said that (I put up the link from the bug report that
supposedly fixed the bug with a 2.6.28 kernel), and I tried the old
Intrepid kernel 2.6.25 and the bug it's not fixed...
It seems it's not the way to go... sorry to waste your time, I really
hoped this would be a good fix!
I'm having the same problem: After doing the latest upgrades with Update
Manager, suddenly sound and video playback is slow!
Looks like a master clock or something is just running at a low speed.
I cannot run envy24control either and get the same message as Ader.
I am running Ubuntu 9.04
