Every time Ubuntu updates everything installs fine except the mysql

You may have a permission issue. Did you change the directories mysql
is accessing. For me, this was resolved by granting the mysql user
under which mysql runs access to the relevant directories (/log/mysql
/lib/mysql /etc/mysql).
i.e.,

message from lsusb...it listed the Prolific... string as you
indicated. When I upgraded to Karmic that disappeared. There is no

Karmic 64 bit. Stock install through the ui. Tried swfdec, but it
didn't work well, so uninstalled an installed adobe's nonfree.
Compiz on: Left click's don't register.
Compiz on: Right click-and-hold.
As a workaround, I added:
Device Default Device
in the Screen section of the original xorg.conf. This caused nvidia-settings
to be able to parse the file and write it's changes. My system is using
Kubuntu 9.10 final.

Thank you for your interest in my problem.
I downloaded and installed the realtek linux sound driver. (audiopak 5.13)
which includes a driver for the ALC888 chipset.
(ran the install file - not a manual install) Still no sound.
I also installed a ALSA mixer GUI, to check the levels.

My PC is also an Acer Aspire One. In my case it also happens when I'm the only
one using the wireless network.
Using another PC (Dell Vostro, running XP) copying large files goes without
problems.
