I had the same problem with ubuntu 9.04 but now with 9.10 it is worse
because i loose my connection around 30 min .So i have to reboot to
connect again

after I added the lines the update manager ran and downloaded a bunch of
files , ran the 2 sudo's and was unable to find the intel-2.4 update.
Went back to update manager and made sure all possible update download
types were checked and double checked the two added
I don't believe the lack of a package config is a wishlist scenario it
is an omission as most dev packages already have them and therefore this
should be moved up in importance

I have the same problem on an acer aspire 751. Changing
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf from the default:
options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N
to:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer
Seems to make the error go away.
