I had this problem. Couldn't burn anything, didn't matter if it was
blank DVD/CD or Multisession DVD/CD I was trying to burn.
I also had some problems with K3b so I installed suggested packages for
K3b. I also disabled all the Brasero plugins. I don't know which of
these two actions helped, but
My video card is Radeon 9200 SE and I've had some problems with 3d-
acceleration in Karmic (well, actually it doesn't work at all - see bug
#444139). In previous versions of Ubuntu I hadn't any problems with it.

this bug has been reintroduced again in today's LiveCD
the fix is still the same:
in the gdm screen press Ctrl+Alt+F1,
then type:
sudo nano /etc/gdm/custom.conf
and remove the unnecessary '\n' symbols.

Sounds like my problem
Symptoms:
After a fresh reboot sometimes Pulseaudio Volume Meter recorder shows mic
working briefly. But soon dies after a few minutes. It worked with skype for
a short period but usually dies when I run a program that tries to access it.
Is there a way to restart
I think its worth placing this comment in the hope that anyone looking
for an answer might consider this simple GUI solution.

GParted uses a library from the parted project (libparted) to manipulate
partitions. If parted discovers a problem with the partition table, then
GParted will similarly be unable to edit the partition table.
Unfortunately, GParted versions up to and including 0.5.0 do not display
