have you tried: sudo /etc/init.d/samba start? This is not meant for a
production server we're only in Alpha 2. I have to issue the previous
command in order for my laptop to be seen by my other computers. the

1. Opening .odt document with text only and than trying to save in doc format

Neil, you are godsend...But i found out an issue: When I boot my Ubuntu,
everything is working great...After 1-2 days, sound goes away from Wine

spatialite program on Ubuntu-9.10 (Karmic) crashes when exiting with
double free message.
Steps to reproduce:
1/ install spatialite with:
$ sudo apt-get install spatialite-bin
2/ run spatialite from shell, and issue the .quit command as follows.
Oberve the crash when

It appears to work now. Maybe there was some problem was something with
one of the repos and that caused the problem. Either way, it seems to
be working again now. Thanks.

It seems to me that I have a similar problem. When I was installing
Ubuntu 9.10 Server I answered to Automatickly part the disk and
configure LVM. Installation finished succsessfully, but when I'm trying
to boot the system it says:no such partition. I typed set at a gnome
resque panel and saw that

The same issue has now affected me.
I fresh-installed 9.10 yesterday from the currently available .iso
files.
Having let Update Manager do its job of updating to the latest kernel
(etc), I am now unable to boot on that kernel. The error message is
similar to #76 here, and references the UUID in
