This has just cropped up on my PC too (Xubuntu 9.10), after installing
lirc, hangs on bootup just before the login screen (slim). (smb.conf is
vanilla). Wouldn't work in recovery mode, told me about the nmbd pid but
wouldn't let me do anything about it so CTRL-ALT-DEL was necessary.
Samba
Couldn't get the Daily Build downloaded (5kb/s in China), but I've got the
latest stable .32 kernel running in Karmic. Still doesn't work. HDPARM gives
me input/output errors doing anything, like setting a password. Gparted at
least sees one of the drives and its partitions, but ultimately does

Which driver exactly have you used?
I've tried all of them, even one apparently provided to some users by
the Realtek staff, but unfortunately none of them works in Ubuntu 9.10
(kernel 2.6.31).

Oups...Sorry...Didn't notice the #554103 bug, mentioned by mikbini. This
seems to be the main problem for network shares connection issues. Not
saving the passwords in keyring makes network shares work all right.

u1sdtool -c
does not start the deamon, I ran u1sdtool --help to see the options and
there was no -c option listed.

I've upgraded my June 2009 Macbook Pro from Karmic to Lucid. The
battery indicator applet had been working, but right now it isn't. I
see the indicator applet, and I can open its About dialog and
preferences, but I get no information

Since upgrading to Lucid I usually get this bug occur shortly after
logging in after starting system. It occasionally happens after the
system has been running for a while too but can't identify the trigger.
Happy to help trace/debug this but I'm a bit of a Linux n00b so don't
know where to
I was having a similar bug with evolution using high CPU, and Sebastien Bacher
told this bug might be the main cause

gvfs-mount doesn't always work. gvfsd-smb starts using 100% cpu.
I know the issue now,
Because on start up my disks are thrashing I switched in prefes connect
on start up to NEVER.
I also set this because at work I go through a VPN and they do not like
the extra traffic.
This I believe caused the error when trying to access the ubuntuone
drive.

The bug is probably at a lower level, but is exhibited when I add the
following code to my Python application:
class MyFramce(wx.Frame):

The exact commit that causes the crash in my application is isolated in

Happend after waking up from suspend.
The only obvious setback is that 3D apps stutter (low fps).
My guess is:
It is related to the multi-core cpu or the switching of cpu cores.
If I restrict the 3D apps to using only one cpu core the problem is gone.
