I modified /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme to reference a *.tga image
instead of the *.png (default), rebuilt the grub.cfg file, and rebooted.
The appropriate splash screen was now displayed. I also tried a true
*.png file which was also displayed correctly. SO I guess this is no
longer an issue.

I'm back. Removing the i8k module worked ONCE. After powering off and
restarting, the keyboard is not responding again. It might have been

I just went through all the posts here but I experience another problem:
with XAA I get seriously corrupted graphics in some applications. Especially in
adobe acrobat the scrollbars are just garbage and the pop up messages from the
network manager are just random dots.

Sorry for going back and forth but finally it's an apt bug and not a synaptic
one. And a tricky one.
It is not specific to spanish language but spanish translators are a bit
"verbose" and translation of the description of texlive-latex-extra is much
larger than the buffer space allocated for it.
I was able to rectify this by removing "Amateras HTML Editor" from the
file associations for html files.

Pretty sure this should be gnome-power-manager, since that controls
remembered settings for brightness. Can an affected user please test
this in Lucid (it does not affect me), and if so, please run "apport-
collect 216545" and allow it full access to upload the debugging

This sounds like a modesetting problem so reassigning to linux since the
kernel does modesetting in this case.
As a workaround you could try booting with UMS. See

I'm seeing this behavior on my eeepc 901, so it still appears to be an
issue on Beta 1 at least. Trying to update to see if this has been
fixed already but the WiFi isn't cooperating and I'm having to run
Internet via Ethernet...

I was able to resolve my keyboard issue. The i8k module for monitoring
sensors on Inspiron laptops was causing the problem (bug #406690). I
must have added it to /etc/modules the same time I updated so I didn't
realize that was the problem.

The errors in XsessionErrors.txt seem to be unrelated to this problem,
they are from a previous session when I got a notification icon stating
that my X server is broken and I should contact my packager about it.
But that was earlier today and my machine was switched off between that

can't confirm the fan problem but the keyboard definitely freezes with
the i8k module loaded.

I upgraded to the 10.04 Beta version, and the bug was still present. I ran
apport under 10.04 to get updated info, then tried the mainline kernel
(2.6.34-999-generic #201004051003), but the bug still happens.
It is quite easy for me to reproduce, just boot up the system, connect it via
