I have this bug now in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) on my Thinkpad R51 since a
so called update this week. After a reboot/login suspend works once.
The next suspend doesn't work, the moon led keeps blinking and on only
a power off/power on cycle can bring the R51 back to life.

I get the same issue on a 64-bit lucid lynx installation. In my case,
temporarily removing wins from /etc/nsswitch.conf, rebooting, then
starting Rhythmbox and unchecking the Ubuntu One Store and Lastfm
plugins, then adding wins back in to /etc/nsswitch.conf and rebooting
was enough to allow

Actually this bug was reported in Lucid. It is still happening. The only
way I can start the live session is by using the nomodeset option in
menu. After the text boot, Gnome starts normally (only the theme is a
little mixed with gnome`s default theme).

I did not have Eclipse already installed, I was running Aptana
freestanding.
I installed the Eclipse Plug-in Development Environment (PDE)
A quick workaround to have your network connection running: run ping in
terminal window to any remote host (indefinitely). Works for me.

It looks like this behaviour is now mentioned by the infopage:
If FILE contains a backslash or newline, the line is started with a
backslash, and each problematic character in the file name is escaped
with a backslash, making the output unambiguous even in the presence of
arbitrary file names.
