I was getting Firefox crashes with the Hardy update version, 9.0.277.0,
so I'd say there is still a problem with the CVE fix on Hardy that needs

I think I've found the culprit, disabling Kernel mode-setting solved the
problem. I have confirmed this on two machines now. It's more likely a
bug in the driver than a problem with compiz. KMS can be turned off
using this guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting.

Appears that removing tomcat did not improve matters.

I realize now this isn't something to do with libdvdread4 - as I have
reinstalled xubuntu 9.10 have not done the updates, and installed
libdvdread4, dvd playback is fine. so it must be something with one of
the installed updates.. perhaps a kernel issue. What would be helpful is

Why do you think that the second delta (disable
05_disable_internal_editor.patch) can be dropped? If I read correctly
the bug report, the request was to switch the default editor back to
internal mc, by disabling the 05_ patch.

I have reproduced the problem with fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu3 and have verified
that the version of fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 in proposed fixes the issue.
Marking as verification-done.
I am experiencing this problem, upgraded Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 and
I'm also confused because of the update-notifier's behavior. I changed
the regular_auto_launch_interval to 0 (comment #53) and will see if it
changes the behavior to what I would expect by default. But at least
this option should be part of the GUI and not hidden somewhere in the
gconf-editor.

To add some more information to this problem:
*) It occurs with a newly created user too, so it shouldn't be some old
settings
*) When I start a different desktop environment (LXDE in this case) and
open some KDE-applications (e.g. kmail), then kded and kdeinit start
without any problem.
