When editing files in a remote SVN work directory, you cannot perform a
commit from within Emacs, because one of the temporary files used in the
commit is apparently created locally, not on the remote host where the
SVN commit command is run.

In bug 643118 the consequences are more serious, because g-s-d picks an
unsupported mode instead of the preferred one, and the display is messed
up. I understand the driver should not suggest broken modes, but what is
g-s-d trying to do anyway? Should it not just keep the preferred mode
that the X

No, it's not reproducible with bzr bd, I'm doing this all the time.
Also, the patch doesn't make sense to me: DistUtilsExtra already
installs every file in data/icons, it doesn't special-case *.svg in any
way. So at most this change is just papering over what really caused the
FTBFS for you.

The newest upstream[1] upstream[2] upstream[3] version at
