Public bug reported:
After upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, suspend to RAM does not work
anymore (was working fine with 10.04).
When going to sleep state, screen becomes dark (with blinking cursor in up left
corner), but the system never goes to power-off.

It means that particular build failed. Shouldn't matter though because
it was a 0.23.0 build for Maverick. Maverick shipped with a newer
version (0.23.1). All Mythbuntu supported releases have newer versions
available now anyway, so you might want to try those. I doubt you can
even get that version

I am out of the country, so unable to resume this test right now.
However, before I left I let it run for 2GB worth and the ratio showed
"infinite" (actually, the infinity sign).
I guess the short answer to your question is that I cannot readily
reproduce this at this time, either.

Thanks for this fast fix.
Have you downloaded a torrent before trying to quit?
This only happens for me after I downloaded a torrent and connections are left
open.

OK maybe It's a dumb idea, but you can calculate the difference between
foreground and background color and change inherited foreground color if
difference meets certain conditions. :)
Or you can rely on other colors of the theme...

Applying the fix at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules did fix
my problem; but I needed to reboot to make the change take effect.
I updated that wiki page to make it more obvious that a reboot is
required when using the command line install instructions.
