Thanks. So it seems this is a kernel bug then, if the ioctl to set the
correct key codes doesn't work, there is not much we can do about it at
the udev level. At least it expains why the patch doesn't work for you.
We still need it once the kernel is fixed, though.

Every time I reboot, the kernel tells me it cannot find the disk. After
awhile, it finally loads to the login screen. Everything looks normal

Funny thing, my Windows partition had no prob with the card, but I
reinstalled xp pro for the heck of it and xp pro didn't find the sound card
either. As a last ditch effort I moved the card to a new slot in my tower
and it worked. I haven't booted into ubuntu yet since because I haven't

It's a pity Evince still has these bugs after all these years, despite being
such a basic application.
It's unbelievable the window doesn't launch maximised when we want it, it's
unbelievable the absence of a "Set default zoom" option. Those are the basics,
honestly.

It is Pidgin 2.7.5 which I am obtaining from the pidgin-developers ppa.
It happens with Ubuntu 10.10 x64, but is most likely to happen with many other
systems that use GTK.
I just stumpled upon a pretty similar ticket:

I tested the following mainline kernels (each one for several days) and
none of them has the problem. The Trackpoint device is not reassigned
after each resume either.
