This is not a bug Ubuntu does not have the Brother Scanner Drivers,
they need to be downloaded and set-up manually. I found the following
solution for me by using the Ubuntu Software Center Help (scanning) and
going to the Brother Solution Center.

works fine, but does not run the S470 as it does not have drivers for
it. I tried the 2.6.35-02063508 kernel and that works, but I am a bit

When selecting output in the Sound Preferences, the Connector allows me
to select Analog Output and Headphones, neither of which works. Sound
works fine with Headphones, just not with the laptops internal speakers.
