Hello Marko and thank you so much for the answers. I see you are on to

I'm currently using the wacom-dkms package from the 'irie/wacom' PPA,
and it appears that ONLY finger-touch-based input manipulates the cursor
and nothing else (such as the pen).

Thank you for your bug report. That's an odd issue, eog perfectly opens images
on my desktop. What happens if you try it from a terminal
(Applications>Accessories>Terminal) by entering
eog ~/Desktop/nameofyourfile.jpg
PS: The issue with "About Ubuntu" is a known bug (Bug #690248).

I am not sure if this is intentional, but since my Unity update today
the keyboard indicator is now visible in my panel. I wanted to report
this as a bug in case this is not the desired default behavior.

Intel Mobile 4 Series chipset (rev 07).
I have installed the 32-bit version of Ubuntu Maverick running kernel
