It may be a factor, but as I said earlier (what, you didn't reread the

bottom panel, next to the show desktop applet) from a clean user

I have the same problem on kubuntu 10.4.
I had similar behaviour with debian lenny (kernek 2.6.26) but not with squeeze
or a bacport kernel (2.6.32).

I tested with a KDE dark colors theme (and the great oxygen-gtk as GTK+ style).
The paper on Writer gets dark too. The buttons from toolbar are on a high
contrast mode (from those to blind people).
I can manually change the paper color to white, but the toolbar
So if a guest logs out of their session for whatever reason, they cannot
use the computer again until someone with a password shows up!?!?!?!?!?

I just tested a recent Maverick AMI and it does indeed correctly set the
hostname to the newly assigned internal domain name after a stop/start
sequence. So no need to open any other bugs on that score.

upgraded my Core2 E6600 machine to Core i7 2600K. Ubuntu is installed on
an SSD, but the SSD is not new. There was no issue with Core2 + SSD.

I've temporary fixed the issue by editing via gconf-editor
/desktop/gnome/session/required_components
panel key from gnome-panel to unity-2d-panel

Title:
Grub update fails (hideously) on usb-creator images

Tried the same thing with a ID 0951:1607 Kingston Technology DataTraveler 100
2GB and it worked fine.
Usb-creator just exits with no message.
Note:on every try I erased the disk first and set to 'not store data on
usb'(or similar configuration)
