After killling -9 gnome-session one can use the terminal provided by the rescue
session to start gnome-session
(the new Ubuntu gui is even more unusable then Gnome-3)

I was able to get a backtrace with libpixman debug symbols. The problem
persists, but I was able to browse various other pages of the site
before X hung again.

Flash/Gnash is optional software available to those that require it. You
can easily download gnash from the LiveCD. Since Gnash is in Universe, I
highly doubt it will make it to Ubuntu by default.
Gnash is part of the Universe repository, and as such its packages are
maintained by the community.

I've got a bit of a problem with pulseaudio. It wont work. I've tried
deleting the .pulse folder. Tried adding it to the startup
applications. Nothing helps. I got this error because I tried to
uninstall pulseaudio to fix sync problems

Thanks so much for your report.
I have confirmed this on an Oneiric Alpha3 installation, this is due to
the fact that gstreamer-plugins-good no longer contains the
libgstgconfelements.so library, that enables access to gnome-configured
default audio and video sources and sinks.
