I have recently bought an Asus K43U with AMD processor.
I found the same problem.
However while trying other distros (in a Unity avoidance strategy) I
noticed the the version 3.x.x linux kernel that ships with Ubunto 11.10
does not have this problem but Mint 11 based on an earlier kernel does.

I'm trying to use a USB Network adapter, Trendnet TU2-ET100 (AX88772).
This adapter is managed by the asix.ko kernel module.
When I boot with the adapter plugged-in, the adapter seems to configure
cleanly, but I get no network access.
This used to work with older version of
bruno, can you open the update-manager/package manager/software center
/gnome-control-center and check whether under the "Software Sources"
under "Ubuntu software" "Source code" is activated?
Can you also run "sudo apt-get update", and then try the commands of
comment #24 again?

When I have my laptop unplugged for a while, such as during UDS, and
then plug in my laptop, the screen will dim. Unplugging the laptop
causes the screen brightness to return to normal.

Works fine for me here using Lubuntu 11.10 (fresh install), all the
lxpanelctl commands do what I would expect them to do.
There *is* a focus issue with the run dialog, so you have to click on
its tab at the bottom of the screen before it becomes visible, but that

The MUXSEL settings only allow 3 unique channels, not 4, so the bottom
RCA jack of ImpactVCB #64405 does not work, when loaded with bttv's
auto-detection.
