The cryptsetup isn't the same at all, since it specifies the crypt
device in grub.cfg, and that is what you get on the kernel command line.
Whatever grub.cfg says to pass is what gets passed and thus, what shows

manually mounting the encrypted homedir failed with permission
denied/wrong password, even though I'm positive it was the right one. To
