external HDD, its partitions do not appear on the Launcher, neither is
it automounted in Nautilus. Regular (root) mount works. I have just

The dialogue that pops up to format looks like it's the same as that
invoked from the Disks utility (which works). Looks like whatever call
is made when you confirm you want to format the drive fails. Would it be
possible to launch the disks utility directly from clicking Format in

tried 13.10 and 14.04 both do not load the intel driver. to reach a desktop you
need to specify nomodeset and fbdev at boot and remove the vesa driver.

I don't think it's acceptable to impose a behavior change in such a way
that someone with a sane configuration is unable to log in after
upgrading --- except through a virtual terminal or ssh in order to make
further changes to the configuration after googling the problem. This is
