I managed to get it to upgrade cleanly without removing any packages
(only libunity-core-6.0.8 to replace with 6.0.9).
I had to selectively upgrade the packages in a certain order.

libevdev 1.0 is available in Debian so a simple sync would be enough to
get it into 14.04. I'd appreciate it if I could be kept in the loop on
any maintenance work done by a Ubuntu team! (I'm the package maintainer
