$ mysql --socket=/tmp/akonadi-${USER}.rp6WPG/mysql.socket
mysql use akonadi
mysql DELETE FROM PartTable WHERE name = 'GID';
mysql quit

$ akonadictl start
That helped and akonadi database migration was successfully completed.
KMail is now working again.

probably goes back to Kubunnto 12 era :

Fair enough.
I expected you are looking for the information related to the
components of that machine. And the link in comment #5 has such
information.
If I change the keyboard layout to russian when editor is not running,
then starting it, I could type only in russian.
The curious thing is the behaviour is not the same with romanian
language - romanian characters are not typed at all, in any case...

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10.
Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade
to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon
