I noticed that the weekly fstrim cron job slows the system down considerable,

In the partitioning screen I merely enabled encrypt disks, which
(rightfully) auto-enabled LVM. After continuing I got an error message
that partitioning failed.

Maintained software can be as much insecure (heartbleed, shellshock) as
unmaintained one. Also, this is just desktop client software, not server
mission critical one. Denying access to it due to potential unfixed
