I did a partial uninstall (some stranded packages left over) of KVM on my
previous iteration of 14.04 and didn't see the bug on a subsequent kernel

This is caused by the radeonfb kernel module being now compiled as a
module, rather than being 'built-in' to the kernel. It's hard to see
where/when/why this change happened in Ubuntu, but it probably came from

The main ofono modem interface ( org.ofono.Modem ) defines two
properties that can be used to identify the device, 'Manufacturer' and
'Modem'. There are currently hard-coded to "Fake Manufacturer" and
I started a live session of Xubuntu 14.04.1 in Virtualbox to test this.
After upgrading xubuntu-default-settings to 14.04.6 from trusty-proposed, the
settings category became instantly available in Whisker Menu, also making the
items in that category appear in searches.
It works!

AFAIK KeePassX performs autotyping by sending keystrokes to the browser
so changing keyboard layout for Firefox to English US will populate
fields correctly with `@`. Why KeePassX can't/won't figure out this
subtle difference is beyond me.

for the last 2 weeks and I have not been able to see any kernel panics
or debug outputs in dmesg, syslog, or the kernel log .
