I would be willing to run the kernel from it if I can obtain it
somewhere. It takes about a day to reproduce the problem. The first
symptom are things randomly crashing (google-chrome, for example) and
then not too long after I see messages about pte problems.

using upstart; it does not work with systemd, which became the default
as of 15.04. Another package besides git-all which is affected by this

Thanks for the quick response. There were quite a few other crashes
while attempting to fix incomplete installs manually with apt-get and
dpkg. There were several file-system breakages as well and it was all
getting quite painful.
Apport was also failing to deliver crash reports and

So it is possible that network, and other ipc types will show up under
the file_perm operation. Operation is just a hint for which kernel
code paths the permission request came from. Sockets certainly can be
used with regular filesystem operations.
With that said, something is very wrong here.
Hi, sorry for the delay -- I was out of the country when this was asked,
and lost track of it by the time I had returned.
The system does boot without navigating the menu. The menu simply does
not appear onscreen and it is difficult to get it to come up. I have

Whatever you spotted is likely unrelated.
This bug is reported on KDE 5, the stale lockfile issue is a Qt5 problem and
Haswell (your chip) isn't nearly similar to ironlake (while they may of course
have similar driver bugs)
