everything afterwards with Synaptic. It took a few reboots and Bleachbit
to get rid of the apport errors, but all is well now. It isn't my work

Hmm, very interesting. So in a nutshell : the use of a memory mapped tmpfs
for /run/shm regions is making the memory problem worse.
Maybe those could go to an app specific directory, and tax the local

unresponsive shell including power button doesn't blank/unb
Ok, that's just odd and doesn't make much sense to me, but yes, after
rebooting, I am able now to create USB sticks from both 14.04.3 and
Wily Daily using 0.2.56.3ubuntu0.1.
I really would not have expected to reboot for that, to be honest...
then again, I'm quite old school and the idea of reboot
