You also have to run unity-control-center with that environment

COMPIZ_CONFIG_PROFILE=ubuntu-lowgfx unity-control-center
This is automatic when this is forced with upstart, otherwise you've to

Hi. I've experienced font distortions all the time when editing within
the new Libreoffice. The distortions go away with redraw by Ctrl+L or
Shift+Ctrl+R . That's extremely annoying, never had that before.
