At the release of Ubuntu 16.04 "none" meant actually "XIM". It has been

I think part of the problem is the cursor logic. You can move the mouse
cursor slowly over the desktop, but doing the same never triggers the
application list to open on the left edge. So unless you're inclined to
throw the mouse around at high speed, you won't ever find it.

I just discovered Unity8's application list by accident. Although it
took me a while to figure out how I had accidentally discovered it.
Turns out you need to push the mouse to the left screen edge (which is
non-obvious given the launcher is always visible already).

Unity8 crashes and restarts when opening a menu:

I just noticed also with sounds off, you can hear the impact of your

@Gunnar Hjalmarsson:
It was set to 'none' before, so maybe mine is a different bug, then?
(XIM wasn't available for choice in the LM settings dialog for input
method, I didn't know how to find out if it was used, but not
displayed.).

Per comment #10, this isn't fixed until all of the branches land. The
Unity8 branch by itself doesn't really qualify as a fix that should get
announced for this bug.
