I'm really sorry Jamie I missed that comment and so I didn't follow up, will

app now and he said just to use pulseaudio as a plug and a build-depend, that
gets sound to work.

at will. I first started getting this in a Xenial machine:

So, a strange thing happened. In order to mitigate the problem, I
decided to switch to having the computer hibernate instead of suspend (I
outline below the steps I did to do that). And then, on a whim, I tried
suspending again. And it stopped crashing, even after I switched back to
suspend

Thanks Dan, it looks like this was introduced with a switch from cdbs to
dh packaging formats in Debian version 2.0.6-1 and fixed in Debian
