I would hope that snapcraft can be made to automatically populate the
apps data by detecting the .desktop files. In this case, the command

We have somewhat commandeered this bug. It's being experienced on Intel
graphics by most people, despite the description mentioning nvidia up
top. There is a separate bug (which I can't find right now) for nvidia
driver failures, but given Mir doesn't actually support the Nvidia
driver yet

Disabling hardware acceleration fixes it for me as well:
vlc -> Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Accelerated video output (Overlay):

Any updates on this? I'm experiening the same issue as Piotr - The logo
is initially displayed, but when the animation for the "dots" starts,
the logo disappears and then only the dots are displayed.
