Had the same issue after upgrade from 16.04 - 16.10,
no response from keyboard but trackpad still worked.
I went software updater - which had software to upgrade,
reported it could only do a partial upgrade,
but this included xorg and the packages mentioned above.

My system is unable to resume after I suspend it(by closing the lid
directly or through terminal or by clicking the suspend option from the
screen). As soon as I try to resume, screen gets awake but shows
nothing. Eventually, I have to force shut down it by long pressing
So for me the situation with 4.8.0-53 is that in contradiction to 4.8.0-49 the
system is working again and doesn't suffer from broken network configuration.
So it isn't a blocker any more.
But there is a conflict with the bond0 configuration on my systems now.

I am no longer experiencing this error; however, now the network-manager

You should be able to write the ISO directly to a USB stick with dd (ie:
"dd if=image.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1M") and it should boot fine on your EFI
system. I suspect usb-creator did nasty things to it.

The reasons for it not building are outside my knowledge, doko did a
llvm-defaults transition without checking and rebuilding rdeps, so I don't know
when this started to be broken, and I don't know how to fix it.

the missing EFI support. I re-enabled it in this kernel so you probably
