Hi Canonical,
Here are some clarifications on the feature from the security team:

Ethan - Have you tested the patch that Balint provided or are you
guessing about how it will behave? If the communication is improved
u-u-shutdown will delay the shutdown process while updates are being
installed.

I built a test kernel with a pick of commit 377aa6b0efba. The test
kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1702768/
Can you test this kernel and see if it resolves this bug?

Since the issue happens in the initramfs, I don't believe I can run
apport-collect. I've also long since worked around the issue by
including sata_highbank in the initramfs. However, the issue is that the
initramfs eventually drops into an emergency shell since it can't find
the root filesystem.
Would you mind keeping an eye on it and poking it with a big stick if
required? We kinda need this package to allow the on-screen keyboard to
log in for the KDE Plasma desktop.
Many thanks :)

With current firmware (e.g. AMI 018 for CRBs), Cavium ThunderX-based nodes in
ACPI mode fail to boot due to an undetected SMMU device. This doesn't impact

I'm posting this here merely because another bug page on launchpad says that

Mike, because of how GNOME Shell extensions work, your suggestion is
unfortunately not possible.
There was a major fix for libgweather released to Ubuntu 17.04 recently
so make sure you have all updates installed. Since 17.04 was released,
there were also fixes in gjs for some gnome-shell crash

Comment #14 implied just a bit that this behavior could be intended if
the screensaver is disabled so I wrote comment #15 with the potential
possibilities how this could be handled.
