Sorry I didn't think about this before, but I gave the non-ASAN version
of the application a spin with valgrind 3.13 and it doesn't report any
memory errors with it - so it's possible this is either something
valgrind won't catch or a false positive by ASAN.

I am also affected by this, and I found the same issue with the Azure
Ubuntu Server 16.04 image. This issue did not affect the Ubuntu Server
16.04 image in AWS.

This is still an ongoing issue even after upgrading to Artful and latest
kernel releases. The kernel still intermittently detects the mouse
differently. Even when it DOES detect it as an ETPS/2 Touchpad, using
the device caused the cursor to jump around and click without pressing
to click.
