GNOME Shell uses monochrome symbolic icons in the left side of the top
bar.
The default Ubuntu session in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS overrides that to use
full-color app icons instead.
In 18.10, the Ubuntu session is showing symbolic app icons there instead

I have not looked at the detection code but it might be possible to use
"ss" instead of lsof to detect if anything listens on a given port. "ss"
comes from iproute2 so it's more widely available.
$ ss -nto state listening 'sport = 80'

In my opinion the log message from system also needs to be dropped - a
number of systems will use NXDOMAIN as a means of domain blocking/ad
blocking, and this isn't thus an exceptional event that needs logging
each time.

I upgraded one of my desktops from Xubuntu 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS. This
broke alsa/pulseaudio, because the upgrade failed to install the linux-
modules-extra-* package.
Before the upgrade, sound worked fine, after the upgrade pulseaudio only
showed the infamous "Dummy device"

Hello, I agree this is very helpful already, but it seems it is still
not a full fix for this issue yet. There is no other reason for removing
and refreshing the cache than this bug, so I think opening a new one

Sounds like the Dock is losing its network connection (I'm assuming its wired
to the NIC on the dock)
When this issue occurs again, remove the network cable from the dock and try
logging in. If it lets you in - The dock may be in some sort of power save
mode stopping network connectivity.

On fully upgraded Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Scilab 5.5.0 consumes all CPU resources and does not start at all.
Rebooting with 3.13.0-153-generic helps. Installing `linux-image-
generic-lts-xenial` (4.4.0-133-generic) helps too.

After updating to 18.04 from 16.04, every time I try to type a character
that's not a letter or a number in the nautilus location bar, like "/"
or "~", it hangs.

`time-format` from 'locale-default' to 'custom'.
You can customize the format as long as they are understood by strftime.
